Day 1 -LeJoG

Firstly we made it, phew.

Ray joined the train at Bath, and we had a good journey down to Penzance, although as you can see Ray seemed a little surprised when we arrived.

Once we got our bearings and got the GPSs to work out where we were, we headed up hill out of Penzance, taking signs for Lands End.
We managed to mostly keep off the A30, and stay on hillier quieter roads.
It was 12 miles out to the Land End "attraction". The attendant at the barrier didn't even flinch as we just cycled through ( the sign has charged for coaches, cars and motorbikes, but not push bikes ).
We then went to the directions sign and took the obligatory photos.

I also noticed the rather sobering signs opposite.

Moving on quickly, we went out to the furthest point we could see and which was much nicer.

Then we set off on the journey.
To Camborne via Penzance. We took the quicker route along the A30 this time. Thus meant we could stop for an ice cream and pictures of Mount St Michael, without worrying about the time.

It was then a good journey through a couple of valleys to a very good (so far) pub in Camborne, the Tyacks Hotel.
It was exactly 25 miles from Lands End. So adding on the 12 miles to Lands End and the 12 miles to Swindon station, it was a good days cycling.

The bike handling is quite different, and when setting out this morning I realised that I should have spent more time carrying a load. I found braking particularly different and have tightened up my back brake.

We have had a look around town, and found only one shop open, and several Chinese take aways so we will be eating in tonight. Tomorrow we will stop during the day to get some fudge and have some scones and clotted cream. Tonight we might just have to try the cider.
I must thank Clive and Janet from Camborne for their very generous sponsorship, we just got talking to in the hotel reception and they handed us some money.

Cheers
Paul
