Day 5 - Murphy Monday

If anything could go wrong it did today.

Before we even started I had a puncture in my front wheel.

Steve and Bruce were brought by Gordon in a van, and Mark arrived with his wife who also did the Neolithic marathon walk yesterday.

Thanks to Mark and Bruce for helping me fix my puncture.
Then my bike fell over and knocked off my iPhone holder, which did not just snap back on quickly.

We then set off in the rain.
After a little navigational confusion.
We had to stop again as Mark had a puncture in his rear tyre.

The next issue was that my iPhone unexpectedly ran out of power, which means that the photos of Ian's Jeep are not available yet.

Thirdly, Ian gave us a tie wraps to fix Steve's brakes that gave up today, which did not help when going down the hills in Symonds Yat later.

Once we passed over the Severn on the old bridge, which thankfully was not windy, Steve then got a puncture.

In Chepstow we stopped for a latish lunch, while the sun shone, it started to rain again as soon as we got going again.

Out of Chepstow, was a very long hill, and I got heavily ridiculed by the others for not being able to keep up, although I was the only one who actually managed to cycle up the steep part of the hill without walking (lard boys).

Once we got to Symonds Yat the heavens opened and cycling down steep hills unable to see, and one of us with barely any brakes, made for interesting riding.

The final route to the youth hostel was a very steep hill up and then scarily steep rough downhill track, again which the lard boys were not able to handle.

The evening was spent with a very friendly crowd from the Warnborough vets.

And Samantha, who managed to take care of a very rowdy group, and even gave us sponsorship, although was not willing to cycle with us, sensible woman.

Cheers
Paul
