Day 6 - A wheel and cake day.

The day started with a walk up the hill from the youth hostel.

We then got back on the bikes and had some nice views of the Wye valley.

We went into Ross-on-Wye to a bike shop to try and get a new brake for Steve, they didn't have the correct type, but I bought two inner tubes. I was feeling nervous about having already used up one of my spares.

We then headed out to Hereford. Steve an Bruce put there heads down an pushed along the road, which meant that they did not hear Ray and myself shouting that they had missed the turn off the main road. We therefore had to take a busier road than we had planned.

In Hereford we looked for a bike shop. The first we found was shut.

This meant that we hunted for another shop. I'm so glad that we did, because we found this fantastic bike shop.

Climb on Bikes is such an amazing bike shop, they are extremely helpful, and have an amazing range of bikes. If you decided what type I cycling you want to do and set a budget, these guy can measure and setup the right bike for you usually within an hour, no matter what your requirements are. I would recommend them.

I was amazed to see bikes that had electronic gears, I has know idea these existed, it is such a different level compared to my bike that struggles to change gear and the chain comes off regularly.

They had new brakes for Steve and when fitting them showed that his wheels were falling apart and may not survive the trip to Chester. Therefore Steve bought two new wheels. We requested that the new wheels were heavier than his old ones to try and slow him down.

The Climb on Bikes shop recommended a tea shop on the road to Shrewsbury. It was a good 10 miles out but when we found it, it was a treasure of tea and home made cake.

Or two pieces of cake.

We also met Dave, who we hope to meet again in the pub in Slaidburn. Dave set off from Lands End on the same day as us and will arrive at John O'Groats on the same day as us, but is taking a slightly different route.

This is a view of Long Mynde near to where we are staying tonight.

The Youth Hostel we are staying in is in Bridges, which has very few houses, a youth hostel, and a pub tied to the Three Tuns brewery. It apparently it is their only tied pub, so it would be rude not to test it.

Today we did just over 60 miles, mostly using this route http://g.co/maps/q5wfz

Tomorrow we are going to Chester, and it is mostly down hill the whole way. Thank goodness, as today was a two painkiller day, for the knee.

Cheers
Paul
